As women business owners, so many people depend on us, from our employees and their families, to our own families and other people in the business community. Being healthy is the best way to run our busy lives, but how do women cope and weather the daily challenges of running a business in the face of a serious health crisis?

Join us on May 24th to hear how courage and perseverance led our panelists through a dark and challenging health crisis. This panel of successful WBO's did not allow a diagnosis to define their dream or dampen their spirit. How were they able to make it through? What impact did it have on their business? Why do they want to share their journey with us? Our panelists will be answering these questions in an open discussion about health, wellness and a drive to overcome a serious diagnosis. Learn from the experiences of these inspiring women owners who soared when the diagnosis pointed toward defeat.

Lisa Kornstein Kaufman

Founder & Creative Director
Scout & Molly’s

Lisa grew up in North Carolina. She received her undergraduate degree from NC State University and a master’s degree from the University of SC-Columbia.

At the young age of 25, Lisa decided there was no time like the present to follow her, larger than life, dream of owning her very own store. Lisa jumped in with both feet, wrote a business plan, took it to the bank, was approved for a Small Business SBA loan and 3.5 months later in the Spring of 2002 opened the doors of the very first Scout & Molly's clothing boutique (named after her dogs) located in Raleigh, NC. Three years ago Lisa partnered up with a team in PA and formed Franlogic Scout Development. Today there are close to 40 Scout & Molly's Boutique franchises open across the country (7 in FL) with another 60 or more currently in development.

In 2008, with 2 small children at home and a business to run, Lisa was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. This was a turning point for Lisa and for her business. She refused to let the diagnosis and the disease define her. She was determined to take it as a sign that life is short and we are all here for a reason. Kaufman decided her purpose was to make a difference in the lives of others. She began incorporating fundraising into her business model and it truly became part of the Scout & Molly's corporate culture.

Lisa is a newlywed about to celebrate her 2nd wedding anniversary. She splits her time between Boca Raton, Florida, and Raleigh, NC. She has a blended family of 6 kids and a great Dane named Banx.
