March Luncheon—A Discussion on Leadership and Entrepreneurship: Add Your Voice

March 28, 2018
11:30 AM - 1:30 PM

Dorothy and Roy Park Alumni Center
2450 Alumni Drive
Raleigh, NC 27606

Join us as we discuss the impact that leadership skills have on today's startups, teams, and businesses.

Brian Alvo will be joining us to talk about the leadership mindset and how he helps to foster transformational change for the next generation of leaders, companies, and communities through skills-based professional development at his NextGen Leadership Center, which has launched out of the innovative American Underground in Durham.

Joining him in the conversation will be Braden Rawls, the CEO of Vital Plan, a North Carolina-based e-commerce wellness company that she co-founded launched in 2012. Braden is a graduate of the NextGen's inaugural NC IDEA LEAD program, and she will discuss her recent experiences with leadership training and the effect that leadership skills have on her company and team.

We hope you'll join the conversation and contribute your own ideas about the impact of leadership on entrepreneurship and business ownership.

Brian Alvo

Brian Alvo, Founder, NextGen Leadership Center

Brian Alvo is a start-up leader turned Business Coach who helps organizations effectively engage and develop the next generation of leaders.  While coaching is commonly found in the C-Suite, Brian believes it can benefit individuals across an entire organization.  Most of Brian’s clients are newly-minted supervisors or young professionals who one day aspire to lead - a position he understands well through his own experiences, especially in the start-up community. Brian specializes in coaching the "Next Generation" of young professionals, first-time managers, and their teams. Because there is no cookie-cutter manual for success, he works with these individuals and their companies through an intentional process of business coaching and consulting to create opportunities for them to discover their abilities, develop their skills, and ultimately deliver results.

As for Brian, he has over ten years of diverse professional experience spanning multiple industries (LNKD Profile Here) and earned his MBA from Duke University.  His latest tenure includes serving as the VP of Business Development & Strategic Accounts at one of the fastest-growing technology companies in Durham, where he helped grow the organization from 14 to more than 50 team members in less than two years' time.

Braden Rawls CEO Vital Plan

Braden Rawls, CEO and Co-Founder, Vital Plan

In 2008, Braden founded Vital Plan with her father, Dr. Rawls, a well-known obstetrician who formerly practiced in a small coastal North Carolina town. Their goal was to empower people to take control of their health and provide easy access to Dr. Rawls' potent herbal blends, which he developed in order to combat his own struggles with chronic pain and illness.

Through a meticulous process, Braden and her father formulated a supplement line, creating unique custom blends that could not be found anywhere else, using the highest quality ingredients in the world. What started as a small “store” in Dr. Rawls' office, has grown to an extensive product line that ships internationally, and a production facility in Cary, NC, where Vital Plan also has a passionate customer support and operations team.

Braden's leadership has grown Vital Plan to the company it is today, an internationally-recognized brand. Vital Plan is also just one of eight herbal supplement companies worldwide to be certified as a B Corporation® — recognized as the highest standard for corporate social responsibility and for using the power of business to address social and environmental issues.
