Our Panel

Missy Vatinet from LaFarmMissy Vatinet and her husband and partner Lionel opened La Farm Bakery in Cary, North Carolina in 1999. Since, the bakery and cafe has become a staple in Cary, and their breads and pastries are sold at farmers markets and stores across our state.

In 2009, the company expanded with a cafe and bread truck and started offering bread via all five Triangle Whole Foods Markets, and last summer, they expanded into downtown Cary with the opening of its new production bakery at 220 W. Chatham St. 


Maggie Kane A Place at the TableMaggie Kane is the Founder and Executive Director of A Place at the Table, the first pay-what-you-can cafe in downtown Raleigh. In an interview with the News & Observer, Maggie said the aim is for the restaurant to completely support itself from its service. The organization was formed by Kane and received its nonprofit status in November 2015.

Maggie graduated from North Carolina State University in 2013 and began working for a nonprofit with people experiencing homelessness. By befriending many people living on the margins, she felt something needed to be done. Maggie has a heart to serve, a desire to always be inclusive, and a passion for loving people. Outside of the cafe, you will catch her running marathons and eating peanut butter!


Shelly GreenShelly Green is President & CEO of the Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau. Shelly has served as a speaker or panelist at national meetings of Destination Marketing Association International, US Travel’s ESTO, Southeast Tourism Society and America’s Promise Alliance as well as the NC Governor’s Conference on Travel and Tourism and the NC Tourism Leadership Conference. She has also served as a guest lecturer at Appalachian State University, NC State University, NC Central University and East Carolina University.

Shelly is a past chairman of the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP) Board, the group that evaluates standards and determines accreditation for destination marketing organizations in North American and worldwide. She currently serves on the board of Destinations International and has previously served on the boards of Destination Marketing Association of North Carolina, the NC Travel and Tourism Board, the NC Travel & Tourism Coalition and the NC Travel Industry Association.


The Luncheon

Hosted at the beautiful Mayton Inn, a woman-owned hotel and restaurant space in Cary, NC - this will be an amazing spread that you will not want to miss. The luncheon will be a plated meal, so registration will be cut off at 10 am on Wednesday, May 16th. Sorry, this event cannot accept walk-ins.
